Supporting Hampshire Veterans – Suicide Prevention Training

Real Talk training for those supporting veterans

Course Overview:
This tailored Real Talk Workshop is designed for those working with or who may come into contact with veterans, equipping participants with skills to identify and support individuals at risk of suicide in the veteran community. The interactive, half-day online workshop session covers life-saving conversations, suicide safety planning, and skills practice with a scenario specifically tailored for the armed forces community.

Ticket Eligibility:
To qualify, participants must be currently working or volunteering with veterans within Hampshire County Council (excluding Portsmouth, Southampton, and the Isle of Wight)

Aims:

Participants will learn to:

Recognise signs that a veteran may be at risk of suicide.
Engage in life-saving conversations about suicidality with veterans.
Connect veterans to appropriate support services in the armed forces community

Objectives:
This training helps frontline workers to:

Understand the complex reasons veterans may be at risk of suicide.
Recognise behavioural changes linked to suicidal thoughts or crises.
Address the risks associated with mental health crises in veterans and signpost to support

Pre-training Requirements:
No prior experience is needed. Participants should be prepared to self-reflect and empathise with veterans experiencing suicidal thoughts. Personal sharing is not required.
