Celebrating communities over the summer!
One of the great things about supporting community buildings, including village valls and community centres, across Hampshire, is learning about all the brilliant, and often innovative things that they do, all of which enhances the communities they are located in and often far beyond.
But sometimes it’s important to celebrate some very traditional, evergreen activities that they do, and this time of year is one of those where one of those activities is going on right across Hampshire in community after community. It’s the time of the year for Summer Fairs (or Fayres, or Fetes, or even BBQs)!
Whether the event is near the beginning of the summer holidays like at Abbotswood near Romsey (Summer Fayre, Saturday 1 August 12:00-16:00 at the Abbotswood Sports Grounds) or in Petersfield (Summer Fayre, Friday 7 August 10:00 -14:00 at Petersfield Community Centre), a little later in the holidays like at Bartley in the New Forest (Summer BBQ, Friday 7 August at the Village Hall) or towards the end of the summer like at Longstock near Stockbridge (Village Fete, Saturday 5 September, 12:30-16:30), community buildings are at the heart of organising and/or hosting these events year after year.
Some community buildings across Hampshire will have already had their summer event this year so if you’ve missed out this time look out for next summer’s event, there’s something for just about everyone! Do look out for autumn and Christmas events as well, community buildings aren’t just for summer, they’ll often put on more than one event for their communities a year and alongside bringing communities together they raise money for good causes. So see what’s going on at your local community building, you may be surprised what they’re putting on this summer!
