Windrush Day Grant Scheme 2023

Near Neighbours are hosting a grant scheme event commemorating the Windrush generation:

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the MV Empire Windrush in the United Kingdom (UK). In 2023, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) will be marking this special occasion by launching the Windrush Day Grant Scheme 2023. The Department is offering up to £750,000 in grant funding to support a new cohort of impactful and ambitious projects. As of today, HM Government has dedicated £3.75 million in funding toward honouring the Windrush legacy. This includes £2.75 million across five years of the Windrush Day Grant Scheme, and £1 million allocated to the National Windrush Monument, which stands as a fitting tribute to the contributions of the Windrush passengers and their descendants to the UK.

Councils, community groups and charities in England will be able to bid for a share of £750,000 of Government funding to celebrate National Windrush Day on 22 June 2023 and the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush community in their local areas. Each area can bid for up to £50,000 to fund celebratory parades, educational resources, arts and sporting projects, provided that they are focused on the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants.

Applications must be completed by midday on 22 February. DLUHC will announce the winning projects later this year.

Near Neighbours, a charity that brings people together in communities that are religiously and ethnically diverse, are administering this year’s grant scheme on DLUHC’s behalf. Near Neighbours is holding four workshops in January and February where they will give an overview of the scheme and an opportunity for bidders to ask questions.
