Member of the Month: Beaulieu Village Hall

The village hall is at the heart of Beaulieu village community serving as a lunch facility for Beaulieu Village School as well as hosting numerous events.

Beaulieu village hall is an adaptable and versatile space, hosting a film club, regular farmers markets, small committee meetings, concerts and plays, dinner dances, lunches, exhibitions, workshops, children’s parties, weddings and toddler play groups.

The history of the hall

On the 21 May 1976 the village hall was officially opened by Robert (Bob) Rowland Head Forester on the Beaulieu Estate. Of course the story doesn’t start there but a few years earlier when the W.I (Women’s Institute) hut was deemed to be very long in the tooth and the wooden building was gently rotting away. It was definitely living on borrowed time.

Dr. Don Anson, a scientist and New Zealander who had built his own reinforced concrete house in Moonhills Lane got together a committee to raise money and plan a decent community building worthy of the village. Beaulieu Village Hall Trust was registered with the Charity Commission in May 1974. The land on which the Village Hall was built was donated by the Beaulieu Estate.

Events

The hall held an international women's day portrait exhibition of inspiring new forest women and celebrated village halls week with an open day of local good causes and groups.

This year Beaulieu Village Hall celebrates 50 years since it was built. For the Golden Jubilee they are holding a live Rod Stewart concert and curry night. Join them on Saturday 3 Oct 2026.
