Health alert - staying safe in the heat
We have got some very hot weather across Hampshire this week with amber and red warnings for all areas. Make sure you know how to keep safe during the heat.
The hottest time of day is often between the late morning and the late afternoon, with highest UV levels between 11:00 and 15:00. Take extra care during this time if you are outside, step into shade wherever possible and apply high factor sun cream to reduce your UV exposure. Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your head and eyes from the suns rays and remember to take water or other hydrating drinks with you. If you are unsure what the temperature, pollen count or UV will be, you can check local weather forecasts for this information in your area before you head out.
For some people, especially older people and those with underlying health conditions, the summer heat can bring real health risks. Temperatures indoors can also rise higher than temperatures outdoors at times. It’s always worth remembering that those at risk may not recognise their own vulnerability to high temperatures, so keep an eye on people you know who may be at risk during this heat wave. Ask if your friends, family or neighbours need any help keeping cool.
